Located just 12 miles from Washington Suites Alexandria, Mount Vernon is a must-see for any tourist visiting the Washington, DC area. Mount Vernon is the most visited historic house in the United States.

It is the former home of first President, George Washington and his wife Martha. Mount Vernon is open year-round for tours of the estate, museum and Washington’s tomb. Mount Vernon overlooks the beautiful Potomac River.

Through October 31, visitors may take an hour long walking tour that includes behind-the-scenes information about areas where "National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets" filming took place and how these locations were used during George Washington's time.

Visit the new Ford Orientation Center and Donal W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center. Both are part of a $110 million campaign to improve Mount Vernon.  Visit 25 galleries and theaters to learn about Washington's exceptional life and accomplishments.  There are interactive displays, a major motion picture, short films and high-tech interactive experiences.  To provide an exceptional interactive and educational experience without overwhelming or detracting from the Mansion or grounds, more than 65% of the Museum and Educational Center in tucked under the 4 acre pasture just inside Mount Vernon's Main Gate.  If you have ever visited Mount Vernon in the past, the new additions make another visit a must during your stay in the area.
