The Pentagon Facts & Figures
Often used in reference to the United States Department of Defense (DoD), the Pentagon is actually the name of the building that houses the DoD headquarters in Virginia. This unusual shaped building is the highest-capacity building in the world and the third largest in the world by total floor space. Approximately 25,000 military, civilian and non-defense personnel are employed at the Pentagon. The Pentagon building covers 29 acres, and has 17.5 miles of corridors, and three times the floor space of the Empire State Building. It takes just seven minutes to walk from one of the Pentagon to the other, despite its intricate labyrinth of corridors.

Pentagon Memorial. As part of the Pentagon Renovation Project, a memorial for the victims that were killed at the Pentagon and on American Airlines flight 77 in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack is being built. The Pentagon Memorial is scheduled for completion by September 2008. [Top]
